The ancient Romans celebrated Neptunalia, the festival of their god of the sea, Neptune, on this day. To honor the gifts of the ocean, they feasted and drank wine and spring water. Water held a special value at this time of the year because the weather was warm and dry. Honor-ing Neptune on this day was thought to ensure rain for the crops. Modern Italian Witches celebrate the ancient festival of Neptune by lighting blue candles. Decorate your altar with sea salt and seashells and light a blue candle. If you can treat yourself to a day spa today, do it as a way to relax your body with water. Take a long walk by a beach or river. Or, take a luxurious bath and pamper yourself with the healing and calming properties of water. Use bath salts to cleanse and refresh you.
