This is the last day commemorating Sukkot, a Jewish holiday in which many families honor their ancestors who came across the desert by constructing and staying in temporary dwellings. If it is not too cold, throw up a tent outside. Alternatively, construct an altar in a room you would not normally use, such as a garage. In either space, bring in things you would normally use to travel: a walking stick, a backpack, or even a set of car keys. Place them in the ritual space and say:

In my future travels
Let me be blessed
By the strength of those
Who have traveled before me.
Allow me to be guided
To a safe haven
No matter
How distant I am.
Let the ancestors
Infuse these tools
So that I may always
Return to my promised land.

This is a good day to plan trips, or organize your pictures of other adventures. Spend as much time as you can in this space today, and then take it down at night.
