Today is Nirvana Day, a Buddhist holiday celebrating the death of Buddha and his attainment of total nirvana. Nirvana represents the end of all suffering, the achievement of bliss, and reunion with the divine. Buddhists celebrate this holiday by visiting temples and monasteries. They may bring donations of food or money. Although not everyone seeks to attain nirvana, the teachings are still widely useful because they help people to reduce feelings of want and suffering. Spend some time meditating today. Light a stick of Asian-style incense. Focus on a statue or picture of Buddha if you have one. Meditate on peace and nonattachment.
