LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Return of the Sacred Male

Color of the day:  Crimson
Incense of the day:  Carnation

In ancient Rome, today was known as the Regifugium or Fugalia. It signified the offering of sacrifices by the Rex Sacrorum, or religious king, in the place where political matters-those in which he could not participate-were conducted. Some also say it was the day when the Goddess crowned the New Year King after the old one was sacrificed or displaced.

Today then is a day to honor the Sacred Male in his role as consort and consciousness in the mundane world. Take time to meditate on the presence of the sacred masculine within you, on the roles, responsibilities, names, and deeds that you assign to Him. Deepen into awareness too of the challenges to Him wrought by patriarchy, and the ways in which you wish to be in relationship to His energy and presence. How do you wish Him to return this year, and what you will do to support His unpathologized flourishing?
