In Catholic countries, May 31 is Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May) day. After a month of celebrations in honor of the Virgin Mary, the final night is a grand party featuring torchlight parades, games, banquets, and open houses. Children bat at piñatas filled with candy and toys, and adults celebrate with food and music.
Enact your own little celebration in honor of May, mothering, and creativity. Plan a block party or community gathering, and be sure to invite people with children. Potluck is best, welcoming the creative energy of everyone to the table. Make a piñata shaped like the Earth, our mother. F
ill it with treats: sweets and toys for the kids, flowers for all the mothers. Celebrate the mothering energy of creativity, food, friends, and families. Then let the children bat the piñata, grab candy, and take flowers to the mothers.
