Demeter's Day

Color of the day:  Black
Incense of the day:  Bayberry

The month's twelfth day is dedicated to Demeter, goddess of grain, the harvest, and the earth. She is mother to Persephone, and mourns her daughter's loss to the underworld during the fallow time of winter.
As spring approaches, we ready ourselves for the return of Persephone from the underworld, to be reunited with her mother. Although it may still feel and look like winter where you are, you can prepare for the renewal of spring and energize yourself for the last late days of winter.
Create an altar for Demeter and leave small offerings and gifts for her to welcome Persephone home. Your offerings may be anything that represents springs, warmth, and growth, or the joys of motherhood and youth: seeds, flowers, fruit, candy, or small toys. Once spring arrives, share these small gifts with your loved ones.
