Folk legends associate goddesses and other ethereal beings with springs, rivers, and wells. In ancient Rome, coins and other offerings were left at wells and pools. It is still believed that the healing power of water is amplified at certain times of the year, particularly Beltane, and pilgrims travel to sacred waters sites all over the world. But it is not necessary to travel the world to connect with healing water. A spot in the woods or a small water hole in your own backyard can serve as a sacred place to call on water spirits. Offer a coin, some wine or bread, and say: "Like flowing water, may my life follow its course. Like healing water, may my soul find its purpose." |
