New Year Protection for Home and Family

Color of the day:  White
Incense of the day:  Rosemary

This traditional home ward is created by families around the turn of the new year. You will need:

  • Dirt from the home or land you wish to bless and protect
  • A pint-size glass canning jar with a lid
  • A silver item: coin, ring, necklace, chain, etc. (can be plated, but must be real silver)
  • A piece of white paper, 4 inches square
  • A black pen or marker

Gather together everyone who lives in the home or on the land you're blessing and protecting. This can be your family, roommates, or even just yourself. Fill the glass canning jar with dirt from the land. This can also include rocks, sticks, and plants that are found around the home.

Next, bury your silver item inside the dirt in the jar, making sure it's completely covered. Seal the jar, then have everyone present write their full name (First, Middle, Last) on the paper square. You can also write any blessings you might have for the new year to come. Bury this in the dirt as well.

As this jar is a protective ward, try to hide it inside the home, somewhere where no one will see it. Around the next new year, open the jar, retrieve the silver item, dump out the dirt outside, then repeat the building process.
