The practice of whipping, usually with a whip that has multiple strands or “tails” known as a flogger. Some magicians use self-flagellation to increase the flow of endorphins, resulting in an altered state of consciousness that can be used in magical rituals. In certain Wiccan traditions, flagellation is used—often symbolically—as part of initiation.
