An Interview with Melissa Alvarez

1. Your books span a range of topics, from energy and attraction to animals. From where do you draw your inspiration?

I'm a very curious person. I like to know how things work, how other people think, and everything in between, so a lot of my inspiration comes from the world around me. I've worked with frequency, our unique spiritual vibration, for many years. I've also worked with the natural laws for just as long. When it comes to animals I've been connected to them since I was a kid; I've always been able to communicate with them and they hold a special place in my heart. I approach the topics I write about from a spiritual point of view and from the basis of energy and frequency. The inspiration for my books comes from the things I've experienced that I feel will be beneficial to other people. I didn't have a mentor when I was trying to understand my intuition, the paranormal, and spirituality, so I write books that I hope will help others on their path as they delve into their spiritual selves, frequency, and intuition. I think of my books as mentoring on a larger scale than I can accomplish one-on-one. I also write about topics that I find interesting and hope will be helpful to others. I wrote The Simplicity of Cozy in the hopes that people would benefit from understanding how connecting to the energy of coziness in their daily lives could empower them spiritually, while showing them how people all around the world practice coziness in their lives.

2. Your new book is The Simplicity of Cozy, which explores practices like Hygge and Lagom. How exactly would you define "cozy?"

I define cozy as a feeling of comfortable warmth, of being stress free and relaxed, and of feeling joy and happiness within your spiritual being. It's important to understand that coziness isn't just thinking happy, positive thoughts. It goes much deeper and requires you to actively choose to add more coziness to your life. It happens at a soul level as you realize that the choices you're making affect your spirituality in different ways. Coziness, our higher consciousness, and spirituality are all connected to divine knowledge, which is at our fingertips any time we need it. When you choose to live a cozy life, you're choosing to acknowledge and be true to your own divine nature, which is transformative on so many levels. Simply making the choice will reduce your stress levels and raise your frequency. Cozy means feeling a sense of peace within yourself, a greater understanding of the world and people around you, and a innate knowledge that anything is possible.

3. Why do we need cozy in our lives?

I believe we need cozy in our lives so that we're less stressed and more connected to our own spirituality. The world in which we live is very hectic; our jobs are more demanding than ever before and sometimes life can be overwhelming. We need a way to get a handle on the things that affect us daily, and adding coziness to our lives will help us do just that. Cozy living can help us reconnect to the sacred within ourselves. Taking a walk in nature, spending quality time with family and friends, and taking care of ourselves on a spiritual level are all ways that we can experience cozy living and help ourselves relax, feel calmer, and more comfortable with our lives. Cozy replaces feelings of agitation, frustration, and anxiety with feelings of joy, appreciation, satisfaction, along with a quiet mind. It brings happiness to us, so we should embrace all of the coziness that we can to live a fulfilled life.

4. Can anyone utilize the practices in The Simplicity of Cozy, or do readers need previous knowledge?

Anyone can utilize the practices and there's no previous knowledge required. In The Simplicity of Cozy I covered many different aspects of coziness and how they can make a difference when applied to our lives. I tried to give the reader as much information as I could so the book would be one they'd refer to often to help with the process of leading a cozy life. I also included many different exercises for readers to try that will help them recognize and embrace cozy concepts at home, at work, and at a spiritual level.

5. What do you hope your readers will take away from The Simplicity of Cozy?

It is my hope that The Simplicity of Cozy will help you make more soulful connections to the moments of your life during each and every one of your experiences, and to find appreciation in all you are so that you can experience spiritual growth. I hope it increases your awareness of the coziness around you so you can draw it to you when you need it most. I hope my words act as a catalyst to help you find balance within yourself, the focus needed to embrace the everyday, simple, cozy moments of your life and a new awareness to both your own spirituality and the world around you. You are a beacon of light that shines for all to see. Embracing cozy living will only make that light burn brighter.
