Spell: Obon

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Kyu Bon marks the three days during which Obon-a Buddhist festival to honor one's ancestors-is celebrated in certain parts of Japan. Today is this festival's central day.
Tonight, create an altar with lit candles and images of a deceased loved one (human or otherwise) whom you want to connect with. You may particularly want to choose someone with whom you desire more closure or peace. Place a treat or meal on your altar that your loved one would have enjoyed during his or her life. Play uplifting music and dance as a way of transmuting negativity or heartache into joy and release. This will bring benefits to both you and your loved one. Afterward, smudge with sweetgrass to send your loved one's spirit into the most light-filled realm of the Otherworld. Extinguish the candles safely, and compost the edible offering or place it in a yard waste bin.
