Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was born today in 1907. Her life was vibrant, yet full of tumult-childhood illness, a serious bus accident that caused serious injuries and lifelong pain, and a stormy relationship with fellow artist Diego Rivera all left their mark. Yet she was able to turn her experiences into an incredible collection of paintings. Creative pursuits can offer us an outlet for our own pain, if not a cure. Today, think of something that bothers you, perhaps something you wish you could change but may not have the means to at this time. Take your feelings about this issue and focus them into some act of creativity; this can be artwork, music, dance, writing, or even volunteering. Turn that creativity into a ritualized action focused on easing the pain and finding solutions for its cause. Let it be a cathartic conduit for what you feel.
