| The nighttime is darkest at the New Moon; similarly, when we experience new beginnings in our lives, we may have trouble seeing ahead to the future. The bat is an excellent animal to call on during the New Moon; even when visibility is low, bat uses echolocation as an alternative. Bat's emergence from a cave or other shelter every evening also parallels the motif of death and rebirth, and therefore new beginnings. As such, Bat is a great guide to help you find different perspectives on recent changes in your life.

Do be aware that in some areas bats are common carriers of rabies; do not touch any bat you may find on the ground or elsewhere, even if it looks healthy.
