Butterflies begin to appear more frequently now in gardens. The butterfly has been a symbol of happiness, rebirth, and transformation in many magical traditions since ancient times. It is also believed that they represent the human soul after death. Butterfly designs were carved into wood and stone statues by ancient Mexican civilizations.
Here is a magical exercise using butterfly imagery. Cover your altar with brilliantly colored fabric such as red, yellow, or orange. Quietly sit before your altar, and in your mind's eye see a butterfly hovering over flowers in a garden. Let the butterfly represent something you'd like to change in your life. Eventually see the butterfly flying gracefully higher and higher in the sky-then disappearing. That is a sign your wish has been received by the Unseen Realm. To attract butterflies to your garden, plant flowers such as coneflowers, lantana, and zinnias. |
