At Samhain, the veil between the worlds grows thin and communication becomes easier with those who have gone beyond. That makes this the perfect time to create an ancestor altar. You can make this altar specific to one person, or it can be a general altar for all your beloved dead. They don’t have to be actual ancestors, although some people do that too. Pets are fine to include as well. You can use pictures of the dead or items that symbolize them, black candles, or anything that speaks to you. You may want to put out offerings of incense, food and drink, or flowers, or anything else your dead might appreciate. In the nights leading up to Samhain, spend a few minutes at your altar communing with and sending love out to those you have lost |
