LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

Spell: Spirit of Esther Incense

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Tonight is the beginning of Purim, a holiday in the Jewish faith honoring Esther, who was a young Hebrew woman living in Persia. She became queen yet still risked her life in order to thwart a planned genocide of her people. You can read the whole story in the Book of Esther, which has inspired many modern retellings. It was one of my favorite stories growing up and a good reminder to be true to ourselves and our community despite whatever dangers we may face. Make an incense blend inspired by Esther to help you be brave, fight for what’s right, and be true to your heart.

You will need:
1 portion myrrh resin
1 portion frankincense resin
1 portion dried rose petals or rose hips
1 portion coriander seeds
1 portion dried pomegranate seeds (or a little juice)

Mix everything together in a mortar and pestle. Burn on a charcoal tablet in a proper holder. (Allow to dry first if you use juice.) You can also take these ingredients and infuse them in olive oil for an anointing oil.
