Spell: Gather the Beauty of Violets

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

One of the most wonderful plants in the Scottish folk tradition is the móthan or bog violet. Violets grow abundantly at this time of year and were used in charms and spells for love, happiness, and protection. When used for love spells, the wise woman gathered nine roots of the plant while leaning on her left knee and then formed them into a ring. This was placed in the mouth of a young girl who would pass the ring into the mouth of the young man she desired, ensuring his everlasting devotion.
Here is a charm for gathering violets for magical protection and wisdom:
I will gather the sacred violet,
Plant of the nine roots,
To overcome all oppression and negativity.
I will pluck the gracious violet, Most precious plant in the field, so that the holiness of the seven sacred elders,
Their eloquence, their wisdom, and their counsel will be mine.
