Incense of the day: Honeysuckle This year the New Moon of October will begin the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims, and it will begin the New Year, or Rosh Hashanah, for Jews. These two religions seem at first to have little in common except a desire to fight with one another. Yet both faiths-and Christianity too, in fact-begin with the book of Genesis, and all three claim descent from Abraham. This alone should tell us our mutual goal is to return to our creator, and that there are many paths that can take us there. On special holy days many religions-including Paganism-prescribe purification and cleansing rites to prepare for sacred rituals. Your soul cleansing can be as elaborate or as simple as you like, though it must be sincere and entered into with a sense of balance and a focused mind. You may shower, bathe, lie on the earth, climb a high hill, sit on your own bed, or stand on the bank of a river-any of these is appropriate. The imagery choose to process is most important now. Whichever method you choose, you should also use a chant or mantra to repeat over and over again while you visualize your soul's purification. Some suggestions include: Heavenly parents, Make me a fitting vessel for you. Lady Moon, Shine through me and banish the bane. Lord of the Sun, Burn from my spirit any impurities. Grandmother, Know my sin and cleanse my soul. Lord and Lady, Wash away the debris that blocks me from you. |
